Haunted
Ghosts of the past, present, and future.

I find discarded images from the past haunting – long forgotten people and places that once held great meaning to someone – now existing only as artifacts whose meaning has faded with time. They serve as ghostly reminders of people loved and lost, places visited and called “home,” and stories shared and forgotten. I have collected a large library of old photos and, along with my own images, I frequently incorporate them into my work utilizing a variety of photographic collage, printing, and transfer methods.

The blurred lines between photographic imagery and abstraction become a metaphor for our entwined relationship with the world around us connected through our shared histories and personal memories. By juxtaposing the photograph's familiarity with layered textures and found materials, I create works that invite the viewer to look deep beyond the surface into a world in turmoil, where the precarious balance between people, nature, and society clash.

I explore:
The fragility of relationships and our world;
Rapid growth's unsustainable consequences and climate change's far-reaching devastation;
The encroachment of human presence on natural habitats.
My approach to each work is characterized by an openness to chance and experimentation. I frequently will build up one painting only to tear it apart and use it as raw materials for another. This multi-layered push and pull allows me to respond to the unexpected as each piece evolves. I utilize wood panels, paper, steel, and industrial materials as my paintings foundations; I am not bound by materials or process, but much of my work incorporates photography and photographic processes, (prints, photo emulsion, image transfer) alongside painting mediums including acrylic, oil, encaustic wax, vanish, shellac, and epoxy.
