I weave together fragments of photographic imagery and found objets with mixed media, crafting expressive semi-abstracted landscapes that dissolve boundaries between reality and expression. I explore the precarious balance between fragile ecosystems and society: rapid growth's unsustainable consequences, climate change's far-reaching devastation, and the encroachment of human presence on natural habitats. The blurred lines between reality and abstraction become a metaphor for our entwined relationship with the world around us connected through our shared histories and personal memories. By juxtaposing the photograph's familiarity with layered textures and found materials, I aim to create works that are approachable and beautiful but also invite the viewer to look deep beyond the surface.
My process is characterized by an openness to chance and experimentation, allowing me to respond to the unexpected as each piece evolves. My works include photographic processes such as photo emulsion, image transfer, and collage. Painting mediums include acrylic, oil, encaustic wax, vanish, and epoxy. I utilize wood panels as a foundation and incorporate metal, construction materials, organic materials and found objects. I am not bound by materials or process.
